Free Intensive Self-Care Course for Family Caregivers

OCTOBER 7, 2016— FREE INTESIVE SELF-CARE COURSE FOR FAMILY CAREGIVERS

Marshall is offering all family caregivers in our community an empowering six-month course, Compassionate Self Care, October 27 - April 13, twice per month on Thursday mornings in Cameron Park from 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.

While caring for a loved one is extremely important and very rewarding, it is also a demanding responsibility. The emotional, spiritual and physical repercussions of caring for others are very real and can contribute to compassion fatigue. Statistics show that 60 percent of family caregivers die before the person they are caring for. This can be attributed to multiple stress triggers such as lack of support, isolation and sadness.

This program is designed to help caregivers explore different ways to be present to themselves in the midst of the daily pressures of care giving. Participants will learn to practice self-compassion, which in turn extends to those they minister.

The course tuition is FREE and made possible by Friends of Seniors.

The instructor, Julie Interrante, MA, is committed to the evolution of the self through the power and wisdom of one’s own soul. She teaches the importance of embracing pain, which breaks open the heart, catalyzing great courage, trust and creativity for living life fully. Julie is an adjunct professor in the Department of Psychology at Sacramento City College and the author of The Power of a Broken-Open Heart.
