Marshall Earns Four Stars in Cms Ratings

Nov. 9, 2016 — The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) awarded Marshall Hospital four out of a possible five stars in the agency’s inaugural Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings.

The CMS rankings are based off 64 quality measures from seven categories. Marshall placed above the national average in patient experience, effectiveness of care and safety of care. Marshall scored higher overall than all but one of the 10 facilities located in Sacramento and El Dorado Counties.

The facility met the national average in the other four categories: mortality, readmissions, timeliness of care and efficient use of medical imaging. The Overall Star Ratings system supplements the existing star ratings, which are based solely on patient survey data and have been in existence since April 2015.

A total of 3,693 hospitals nationwide were eligible for a rating. Here’s how the rankings included each acute care facility in Sacramento County and El Dorado Counties.

Four Stars: Marshall Hospital, Sutter Medical Center (Sacramento)

Three Stars: Barton Memorial (South Lake Tahoe), Kaiser Sacramento, Kaiser South Sacramento, Mercy General (Sacramento), Methodist Hospital (Sacramento), UC Davis Medical Center (Sacramento)

Two Stars: Mercy Folsom, Mercy San Juan (Carmichael)
